Given that Canadian society recognizes that all individuals have certain rights and responsibilities, and in keeping with the Values of the Jordan LifeCare Centre, below are the rights and responsibilities of the residents, their families and/or their Power of Attorney.
All staff and volunteers of the Jordan LifeCare Centre are to respect the rights and responsibilities of the residents.
Right to information and to freedom of Expression
Residents have the right to
- Be informed and make informed decisions about their care
- Ask questions, express concerns, and obtain answers in a way they understand
- Know the names of their caregivers and what role they play in their care
- Associate with others and express opinions in a respectful manner
Right to Respect and Dignity
Residents have the right to
- Privacy that does not interfere with their care
- Confidentiality
- Express their individuality
- Be addressed by their name of choice
- Practice the religion of their choice
Right to Responsible Participation
Residents have the right to
- Maintain contacts and participate in activities outside the Jordan LifeCare Centre
- Be involved in all aspects of their care
- Vote in Government elections
- Make choices
- Participate in appropriate recreational activities
- Manage their personal finances
Residents are responsible
- To treat their healthcare providers with courtesy, respect and dignity
- For their own actions and the consequences thereof
- To participate in safety programs such as fire drills and mock disasters
